The devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines shocked the world as reports of up to 10,000 dead emerged. Complicated rescue efforts could very well lead to even more fatalities as survivors struggle with closed bridges and roadways and the health hazards of bodies they do not have the resources to immediately bury. Celebrities and politicians alike took to Twitter to express their sympathies. There was an outpouring of requests to donate to charities like UNICEF, World Food Programme and The Red Cross:
