The trailer for Fox’s Gotham aired last night and holy shit, it actually looks good.
During the series premiere of 24: Live Another Day, the approximately 8 million viewers caught their first glimpse of James Gordon, a young Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, Penguin, Poison Ivy and the Riddler in action. It also introduced Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, an original new villain on the show. Batman loyalists have been intrigued by the addition of a new character. Warner Bros. describes her as a “sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner,” with “almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book.” And from the looks of it, Pinkett Smith is going to deliver.

The show looks like it might actually be everything fans wanted out of a Batman TV show following the success of the Dark Knight trilogy. Unlike most Fox shows that seem to rely on cheeseball writing and low-hanging jokes, the Gotham trailer is dark, smart and suspenseful. Hopefully that means the show will be too.
Another welcome surprise is that the kid tasked with playing the legendary Bruce Wayne looks like he can actually act. David Mazouz is only 13 years old and, from the sound of it, is still waiting for his balls to drop and kick puberty into high gear. Until then, he looks promising as a young Bruce Wayne.
